Overcoming Obstacles to Innovation in Healthcare
Hybrid. The event is organised by the University of Porto.
We create a network environment for healthcare thinkers and doers in Central-, Eastern-, and Southern Europe. Practically, Morning Health Talks are highly positioned events, that take place in 11 Central-, Eastern- and Southern European countries (EIT RIS countries). The events aim to facilitate changes in healthcare innovation ecosystems and to achieve more advanced healthcare for the citizens, through discussions with high-level representatives and stakeholders about the major healthcare innovation challenges and their regional specificities.
Since 2020, when the Morning Health Talks series started, digital health solutions, hospital engagement in innovations, innovative collaborations, and open innovation have emerged as the most progressive topics, covering the spheres of healthcare services, IT, MedTech, and Biotech. The events have provided a deeper insight into the increasing demands of patients and healthcare, and how modern digital health technologies help to meet those needs.
Benefiting from the power of the EIT Health network, organisations from Europe’s progressive regions have provided a closer insight into some specific healthcare and innovation issues, and leaders, and experts of the highly progressive regions and the EIT RIS countries have been thinking together on the common challenges and best practices, in the frames of Morning Health Talks.

In 2024, the potential of Open Innovation collaborations in the healthcare of the EIT RIS countries was in the focus. Despite that Open Innovations are slightly active in these countries, we have considered it important to put the topic on the stage because of the complexity of healthcare innovations today. Innovations can be truly effective if only to be developed in collaboration with multiple partners. In different wording, but the clear conclusion of the discussions: “If you want to innovate, you have to collaborate”.
